INTRODUCTION

How do you picture Jesus?

We have said Jesus is the Son of God

You're "stupid" if you do nothing

We have said that Jesus is "Mary's son"

He really was one of us

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Jesus preferred to refer to himself as the Son of Man

86 times in the New Testament
Son of God
40 times

Does 'Son of Man' simply mean human? We get a hint that it means something different by the way his followers spoke of him

Acts 7:56
Stephen is being stoned to death
The Son of Man means something different

Even at Jesus trial he claims this title

Mark 14:60-65
and they killed him for it

Why????
Goes back to the Old Testament prophet Daniel

Daniel 7:13-14
The Son of Man is given
authority,
glory,
sovereign power
an everlasting kingdom

When Jesus called himself 'the Son of Man' he was claiming an important title

He was identifying with us but was also claiming to be the rightful ruler of the world

A NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES

Philippians 2:5-11

Paul makes this startling claim about Jesus
If it is true you had better take notice

There is power in the name of Jesus

Use it
In prayer
To make people uncomfortable
To defeat the evil one

He is the glue that holds the universe together

There is nothing of God that is not in Jesus

He is the reconciler
through him to reconcile to himself all things

How big is your Jesus?

Find the ones that touch you deeply but do not miss 'the Son of Man'

Jesus will get your attention

Jesus is coming to claim the harvest he has sown
The Son of Man will come with power
Will you be part of it ?
